ASSP Kuwait Chapter organized Technical meet On “Behaviors and Business Strategy & HSE Role in Total Productive Maintenance”

American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) – Kuwait Chapter is a premier voluntary, non-profit making Health, Safety and Environmental organization, which strives to provide professional guidance, training, consultancy and resources to the industrial and social sectors in the region.

As per the annual plan, ASSP-Kuwait Chapter organized its 2nd Technical meet for the term 2019-2020 on two topics, Title1. Behaviors and Business Strategy. Title 2. HSE Role in Total Productive Maintenance.” The session was conducted at ASSP-Kuwait Chapter’s Meeting Hall, Souk Sabah, Fahaheel on 22nd August 2019.

The Technical Meet started off with the opening remarks by Mr. Mazharuddin Shaikh, Chapter Secretary, he briefed about the importance of technical meets. Mr. Sunil N Sadanandan, President of ASSP Kuwait welcomed the participants and appreciated their participation in the technical meet. Mr. Jahid Thakor briefed about the recent chapter activities and welcomed the participants, Mr. Mustak Mirza, Head of HSE Events Committee introduced the speakers for the day Mr. Gary Fraser & Mr. Santhosh Kumar Shenoy.

Mr. Gary Fraser presented the topic “Behaviors and Business Strategy”. Mr. Gary Fraser is currently working as an HSEQ Manager Kuwait (Wood) Kuwait Oil Company PMC since 2015. Prior to this, he has worked as Vice President HSSE, Asset Integrity and Risk with BG-Group for 12 years. Country Head of HSES and Risk Technip, Thailand. Has held senior management positions in Thailand, Singapore, South Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, China, Tanzania, Egypt, and India.

Mr. Gary Fraser briefly explained about the Behavior-Based Safety and how the Major incidents are led when tolerating small things, he further elaborates how one critical moment where that mistake/ incident can cost individual life. Given Explanation for previously occurred process-related incidents (e.g. Piper Alpha, BP Texas City, Buncefield UK, Deepwater Horizon)

Mr. Santhosh Kumar Shenoy presented the topic “HSE Role in Total Productive Maintenance”. Mr. Shenoy is an accomplished QA/H&SE Professional of over 25 years of experience in a wide spectrum of industries. A motivating team leader who is very good

at training, presentation, workshop facilitation and documentation. Result oriented with high energy and positive attitude with a personable nature. With a good knowledge of International Codes & Standards of QA/H&S, Shenoy has served in various capacities as Auditor, Consultant, Trainer & QA Manager and is well conversant with the Quality Management and Health & Safety culture of Middle East based clients & consultants.

Mr. Shenoy presented about the HSE role in Total Productive Maintenance, during his presentation he Explained about the Eight (8) Pillars of Total Productive Maintenance (Example: 5S, Housekeeping, Autonomous Maintenance, Focus on small improvement efforts, Planned Maintenance, Quality Maintenance, Training, Office TPM, HSE Management, etc…). Question and answers session was conducted and the gifts were distributed to the correctly answered members.

Mr. Venkata Ramana (Chapter Executive) explained the benefits & online resources of ASSP.

There were more than 80 ASSP Members attended the meet and enhance their knowledge; The presentation was followed by Question and Answer session.

The session was very much interactive, and members clarified their queries with the speakers. The Technical Meet concluded with the thanks note by Vice President of ASSP Kuwait Chapter Mr. Jahid Thakor and he thanked the speakers for their time and efforts in delivering the presentation towards the benefits of the ASSP Members. He also thanked the HSE Events committee for organizing the event.

Technical meet on “Role of HSE Studies in Project Life Cycle and How to prepare a technical abstract”

As per  annual plan, ASSP-Kuwait Chapter organized its 1st Technical meet for the term 2019-2020 on two topics, title1. Role of HSE Studies in Project Life Cycle. 2. How to prepare a technical abstract“Session was conducted at ASSP-Kuwait Chapter’s Meeting Hall, Souk Sabah, Fahaheel on 25th July 2019.

The Technical Meet started off with the opening remarks by Mr. Mazharuddin Shaikh, Chapter Secretary, briefed about the importance of technical meets. Mr. Sunil Sadanand, President of ASSP Kuwait welcomed the participants and appreciated their participation in the technical meet.  Mr. Jahid Thakor, briefed about the recent chapter activities and welcomed the participants to participate in the upcoming PDC 2019.Mr. Mustak Mirza, Head of HSE EventsCommittee introduced the speakers for the day Mr. Arshad Ayub& Mr. Ashok Lenka.

Mr. Arshad Ayub Shaik presented the topic “Role of HSE Studies in Project Life Cycle”. Mr. Arshad has worked as Process Safety Engineer in leading consulting companies and has conducted more than 50 QRA studies including software modelling in different sectors of industries including, Oil & Gas, Chemical, Petrochemical, Refineries etc.

Mr. Ashok Chandra Lenka CSP, CMIOSH presented the topic “How to prepare a technical abstract” His specialization is Process Risk Assessments and HSE performance Management.

Mr. Ehab Said Elsayed explained about the technical abstract online submission for the 10thInternational HSSE & Loss prevention Professional Development Conference & Exhibition.

Annual General Body Meeting for the year 2018-2019

ASSP Kuwait Chapter conducted Annual General Body Meeting for the year 2018-19 on 26th June 2019 at Hotel Safir Fintas, Kuwait. More than 150 members of the Chapter attended the meeting.

Eng. Fadel Al Ali, Chairman of the ASSP Kuwait Chapter in his opening speech extolled the activities performed by the office bearers of 2018-19 under the leadership of the President Mr. Aamir Rasheed and wished successful term for the new team (2019-2020).

Mr. Aamir Rasheed, President ASSP KC, in his presidential address highlighted the achievements by the chapter to conduct ASSP GCC HSE Excellence award, 17 training programs, 12 Technical events, 5 outreach events & 5 Student programs. He mentioned that all the chapter programs were focused towards chapter objectives like professional development of the members, chapter growth and protecting people, property and environment in the region. He stated that chapter was able to implement all its planned activities successfully only with the unconditional voluntary support of the ASSP Executive committee members. He conveyed his appreciation to the chapter Elected members, Executive Committee, Advisory Committee, Advisory Board, Chairman, sponsors, ASSP US president, Global region Vice President, Global Region Area 1 Director and the chapter members for the efforts, support and encouragement for all the activities during the year. Mr. Aamir Rasheed also conveyed gratitude to CEO’s and HSE Leaders of various state owned & private sector organizations and Governmental agencies of the State of Kuwait. He declared that the chapter year 2018-19 will be remembered and as one of the successful year in the chapter history.

Mr. Jahid Thakor, Chapter Secretary, appreciated the efforts of the Committees. He stated that during this chapter term many new initiatives were taken and gave the brief summary of the activities conducted during the year in brief by highlighting the major activities, achievements and awards received during the term. Chapter treasurer Mr. Safdar Ali Khan presented the financial report for the chapter with the revenue and expenditure for the year 2018-19.

ASSP Kuwait chapter formed a Toastmasters club during the year 2018-2019 and elected Mr. Vasudevan as president of ASSP Kuwait Toastmasters Club. Mr. Vasudevan briefed about the Toastmasters and the success of ASSP Kuwait Toastmasters. Mr. Dinesh Kumar Pal, a member of ASSP Kuwait Toastmasters club shared his success story.

The Heads of the chapter committees Mr. Ehab said Elsayed (Professional & Career Development Committee), Mr. Adnan Yousaf (HSE Events Committee), Dr. Shaikha Al Fajjam (WISE Committee),  Mr Narendra Patel  (Publication Committee),      Mr. Balvant Singh Kathayat (Outreach Committee), Mr. Tariq Maqbool (Membership Retention), Mr. Hani Alkhatib (Student Committee), & the deputies of Training Committee, Membership Development Committee & Web Development Committee  presented in brief on their respective committees annual activities. Mr. Hani Alkhatib selected as a best volunteer for the year 2018-2019.

A technical presentation on “Environment Regulations in Kuwait” presented to commemorate World Environment Day 2019 by Dr. Fahad Al Ajmi who is working as Head of Jahra Inspection Section, KEPA. As a token of appreciation, Mr. Fadhel al Ali, Chairman of ASSP-KC handed over a memento to Dr. Fahad Al Ajmi.

As a token of gratitude & for the efforts during the year, the chapter Chairman Mr. Fadhel Al-Ali presented the elected core committee members, committee heads, subcommittee members and Advisory Committee members with mementos and letter of appreciation.  A special farewell bid recognition to Mr. Mohammad Riaz Shareef given for his voluntary services towards the chapter activities.

President Mr. Aamir Rasheed welcomed the President elect Mr. Sunil Sadanand to the dias and handed over the President’s medal as a token of Leadership transfer. Mr. Sunil Sadanand, introduced the elected members for the new term 2019-20, along with the nominated head of committees and Advisory Committee Members.

A bumper draw held at the end of the session where two winners Mr. Asgar Hussain & Mr. Hamid Imam received their bumper prizes, A smart LED TV & a smart phone respectively.

In the closing ceremony, Mr. Sunil Sadanand thanked all the members for their participation and wished the new team a successful year ahead.
